Topping Off Pancake Day
Pancake day is upon us. For a lot of people, it is time to sit down with family and friends and enjoy some (or a copious amount of) pancakes.
Pancake Day is not just about delicious desserts, it is also known around the world as Shrove Tuesday. It falls on the day before Ash Wednesday each year, the first day of Lent. Lent is the six week period leading up to Easter. It’s one of the most important times of the year for many Christians around the world, particularly those within the Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox traditions, held at a similar level of importance to Advent – the build-up to Christmas. Here are some interesting facts about Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday:
Although all this is fascinating, I think we need to concentrate on the delicious side of things. Pancake toppings can be a contentious topic, as we all have our own tastes and preferences – not to mention that many of us come from different cultural backgrounds.
Do you stick with the classics, like lemon and sugar? Or do you push the boat out, with something more extravagant like Kiwi and Ice cream? (My personal favourite!)
